Brian McGrory

Mitt Romney, lost in translation

To the good, hard-working people of London, please allow me to apologize on behalf of my former governor, Mitt Romney.

When he basically told an interviewer that you Brits were a bunch of layabouts and that your Olympics would almost certainly be a total disaster, he didn’t mean for you to take it personally. Actually, he didn’t really even mean to say it. That’s just what he does, and it takes getting used to.

ya but he and lt.governor kerry healey stood up to the legislature when they tried to gut the bill which because of their actions became the much needed legislation known as MELANIES LAW. he hounded matt whats his name out of office after the tunnel tragedy and he was the only politician i know of who stood up to billy bulger by telling him he wasn't fit to lead our state u when he tried to evade questions about his brother. btw mcgrory, who do you stand for? ma

Hilarious column. It's been a long time since a column made me smile and laugh so much.

Look on the bright side, though. He's not Obama and he might actually understand enough about the economy to get the growtn engine restarted. The Obro doesn't seem to have a clue and he's had a full term to show what he can do. I'm not impressed.

You really DO have a good sense of humor, Brian! Great piece--too bad not everyone gets the point.

Funny didn't hear him call them a bunch of layabouts, maybe I missed something. Lots of different versions, that's for sure.

I think you just drooled on your shirt, mike

Nice job, Brian. You have captured the essence of what it means to be Mitt.

My "A" game is strictly little league. I understand humor. I love it. I thought it was hilarious when I heard the words, "they are clinging to their guns and religion". I laughed again when I heard, "we need to spread the wealth around". I fell off my chair when I heard, "You didn't build that, someone helped you get there". That is humor for the hall of fame. Well, Mr. Mcgrory, let us chuckle a little about your idol, Mr. Obama. Did he "build that" when he was elected? Of course he did it on his own. On the other hand, maybe it was a teacher's union whose compulsory dues paid for a negative ad for his campaign. Perhaps a venture capitalist heavily invested in solar-energy companies who bundled funds for him. Could it be that programmers figured out how to use the internet to create critical mass for raising small amounts from many donors. Perhaps most importantly, is it possible that he got help from the employees of a private equity firm whose success he vilified but whose dollars he gladly accepted? Well, Mr. President and Mr. McGrory, I built my small business, but if I didn't, please find somebody else who made that happen and begin taxing them.

So Mitt Romney is lost in translation. Well, Brian McGrory is a schill for the New York Times. Which is worse? Mitt Romney often says what he's really thinking. My word, how awful. Mitt didn't like some cookies. Mitt didn't think Brian M. had a sense of humor. Mitt was sharp with an aide at lunch. What a monster! It must be hard for a "journalist" to feel so compelled to tow the line and schill for the Times. Well, Brian, at least you're still working unlike most other newpaper writers. So I guess being a schill pays. On the other hand, perhaps you should stick to writing about your pet rooster.

Sure, belittling an aide in public is small potatoes, as is insulting your host or a clerk, or even strapping your dog to the roof of your car. But add it all up, and it demonstrates a tin ear, and an amazing lack of compassion. These are not the traits of a leader. View this: http://front.moveon.org/two-lesbians-went-to-talk-to-mitt-romney-when-he-was-governor-and-this-is-what-he-said/#.UBDQDRJIjLO.facebook (and yes, it's hosted by MoveOn), which is a great example of Romney not bothering to learn the most basic facts of an issue about which he is making major decision. And compounding that error with again, an appalling lack of compassion for the people whos lives are affected by his decisions.

Brian: Every little nit picked helps, but you can do better than that.

Your only defense is to regurgitate a deliberately misleading Romney attack ad? Man, what's wrong with conservatives on here? It's like you're not even trying.

You forgot "GET OFF MY LAWN"

Did you bother to read past the first paragraph?

Brian, Why don't you stick to one of your favorite topics; Obama. What's the point of quoting British Tabloids? Is that the kind of journalism you will use to quote Mitt Romney? Obviously, and for whatever reason, you don't like the man. He is a very big departure from what Ma. is used to, honest, dignified and classy as well as brilliant and able to do great things. He makes the rest of the politicians in Ma. look as sleazy as they really are. Get with it. America has the possibility, for once in a long time, to better ourselves with the leadership of Romney.

For a very intelligent guy, Mitt's not too smart. He's hard to like. And he is an unabashed capitalist with no understanding of the middle class. The president is also an intelligent person. Who, on fewer occasions than Mitt, acts in ways that are not too smart either. His dependency on puppet master Axelrod diminishes his stature. And he is more comfortable in socialist-centric positions, frequently showing his disdain for the merchant class. Which liek it or not laid the foundation for the country. "Yes We Can" and "Hope" haven't led to much. To me, each are burdened with challenges. Right now, the third option of blanking the presidential portion of the ballot when I go vote seems to be the best choice.

That was an amusing column Brian. I think you *do* have a sense of humor...

What will I write about today? Ideas? Ideas? Ideas? Ideas? Got it! Myself!

He knows how to make himself and his partners rich quick. I want a President who cares about the people he servers. I want a President who takes the long view. I want a President who builds rather than tears down. Obama 2012!

You're casting your vote for 'not Obama?' Be careful what you wish for, chief. We've already had far too many elections in which the winner was elected solely because he was 'not the other guy' or 'not from the other party.'

If I had a dog and named him "redicule", that wouldn't work because then, he would no longer be "man's best friend". I stand accused of writing "talking points". Am I being rediculed when someone writes that? Maybe so. I frequently find reducule petty. It tries to grab meaning from nothing as in Mr. McGrory's column does today. Maybe it is simply humor like when old time comedians fell and people laughed. Politicians now say they "misspoke" when someone call attention to their malapropisms. Mostly, though, news anchors like Brian Williams and many columnists find littre humor when a politician jokes about them. Comments here attract writers who sometimes do not appreciate quotes from their favorite political personalities. Yet, if accurate, they said it and they meant what they said. They were not joking. I try to remain civil and accurate and write what I really think is significant to my side in this political debate. If it offends, but is a true statement, it was the speaker who really did the offending.
