Hannaford supermarkets recall cantaloupes

BOSTON -- The Hannaford Bros. Co. supermarket chain is recalling Burch Farms Athena cantaloupes, which may contain listeria monocytogenes, Hannaford announced Saturday.

“Listeria has the potential to cause serious illness,” the statement said. “No other products are affected by this recall.”

The cantaloupes have been removed from all stores, and those who have purchased the item may return the sticker for a full refund.

According to Burch Farms, which is located in North Carolina, no illnesses have been associated with the recall.

The label on these cantaloupes reads “Cantaloupe PLU 4319” and references Burch Farms.
