Governor Deval Patrick sent an amended version of a controversial crime bill back to lawmakers on Saturday and said he will not sign the measure into law unless it includes expanded judicial flexibility — a change some legislators said conflicts with the law’s purpose and which they will staunchly oppose.
Patrick praised the so-called “three strikes” bill, which makes repeat offenders of certain violent crimes ineligible for parole after three convictions, but insisted that the Legislature amend the language to include a provision allowing sentencing judges to bypass the three strikes rule for some who have served two-thirds of their sentence or, in the case of a life sentence, 25 years.

Gov Patrick makes the right decision. In considering this change the legislature should consider that it is only the times that keeps many of them out of jail, and the times are achangin'.

Deval, and EVERYBODY knows that Obama and Eric Holder are REFUSING to enforce any immigration laws.----And if the legislature has any HONESTY, and actually REPRESENTS the voters who put them there, they should OVERRIDE the governor's VETO of the Illegal Immigrant Drivers license bill.---And as far as today's 3 Strikes bill is concerned, I will just say, whenever he can, Deval Patrick is always on the side of the criminal offender.

Hey Deval, why not squeeze in a pardon for Neil Entwhistle while you're at it? Go for the hat trick and spring Mucko too! Thanks for looking out for...this fine class of people. Guess w/ a statie parked in your driveway all the time, YOU aren't worried about such vermin on the loose. Recall the judges' discretion in Plymouth Cty which kicked over 80% of OUI indictments...good call.
Why would anyone want to protect the hardened criminal. The legislature should override this veto.
