Police end standoff, arrest resident

An armed standoff at a Paxton home ended without incident Sunday night when police took the resident into custody. State and Paxton police were called around 6 p.m. to the house on Laurel Street, where the man had barricaded himself inside and was supposedly armed and possibly suicidal, officials said. Police evacuated surrounding homes, and State Police dispatched special operations, air wing and canine units, said Lieutenant Daniel Richard, a department spokesman. Richard said that although police could not confirm that the man was armed, precautions were taken as though he was. He was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m.
