Banking on kindness at the MBTA

If bad news were money, we’d all be millionaires these days.

The presidential candidates are basically trying to scratch each other’s eyes out. Nothing will change after the Colorado massacre. The world economy is dangling by a thread. Republicans and Democrats can’t agree on the direction of a one-way street.

Despite public perception, there are many public servants who go above and beyond like this. Thank you for sharing it, Brian.

I know everybody likes to talk about how horrible people are on the T. I don't doubt those stories, but I think people are overlooking the many acts of kindness. I offer my seats to the elderly and pregnant and people with small kids all the time, and I see plenty of other people who do the same. You just have to look around and notice it. I used to live in Waltham and one night I went into Boston and came back out on the last green line D train. My husband was supposed to pick me up at the next to last stop. To my horror, I woke up as the train pulled into Riverside, the last stop. At that time my husband didn't have a cell phone so there was no way I could contact him. The only other person around was the train conductor, and he gave me a ride in his personal vehicle to where my husband was waiting.

Red line delays can be tolerated in comparison to the aggravation of the No#1 Bus that travels down Mass AVE through Cambridge, from Harvard Sq. to Dudley Square. There is no schedule for this bus - or - at least the drivers fail to adhere to one. Also, the drivers frequently fail to stop at the Bus stops along MA Ave. while passing through Cambridge, unless a person is standing at one of the 3 bus stops in front of the MIT campus. Here there are 3 stops just feet from each other within a one block distance (go figure). Cambridge residents often see caravans of No#1 buses traveling down MA AVE during rainy weather or during the winter. This means travelers wait long periods of time, only to see 3 buses or 4 buses coming from Harvard Sq (go figure). NEVER have I see a driver on the No#1 bus stop for a traveler running and waving at the driver! Is it possible we do not have MBTA bus drivers on this route?
