Bridgewater man, 18, dies from stab wounds suffered in Wareham on Sunday, police say

One of two brothers stabbed in Wareham last Sunday when they tried to force an uninvited person to leave a party has died from his wounds, Wareham police said today.

Brendon J. Mahoney, 18, died early today at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where he was being treated for his injuries. His brother, Brian P. Mahoney, 19, remains in critical condition, Wareham police said.

The brothers, from Bridgewater, were found lying in the roadway at the intersection of Hardy Street and Priscilla Avenue around 3:30 a.m on Sunday, police said.

A few hours later, Wareham police arrested Bryan Grassie, 18, of Wareham. Grassie was initially charged with assault and battery but now may face murder charges once an autopsy is completed, said Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton.

According to the office of Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, the brothers were stabbed by Grassie when they insisted he leave a party in the beach community. Grassie had not been invited to the party, and was “belligerent,” according to the prosecutor.

Grassie is being held without bail at the Plymouth House of Corrections pending a dangerousness hearing set for Aug. 6.
