Police say man arrested after BMW clocked at 135 m.p.h.

Police say they have arrested a man who was driving a BMW convertible at 135 miles per hour on Route 24, 80 miles per hour over the speed limit. The Herald News of Fall River reported that 27-year-old Raul Barbosa of Bristol was arrested Friday on Route 24 in Tiverton. Sergeant Timothy Panell of the Tiverton Police Department said he watched Barbosa’s car come across the Sakonnet Bridge, speed up, and pass eight cars. A speed gun showed he was going 135 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone, Panell said. Barbosa was charged with criminal driving on a suspended license and reckless driving, and was released with a summons to appear in District Court and in the Traffic Tribunal.
