Century-old caboose to be auctioned

A 100-year-old caboose in Rhode Island is in need of a good home. A national auction firm said it plans to auction the red-and-black train car to the highest bidder. The caboose currently sits at the site of a former train station in Narragansett and is believed to be one of just a few cabooses remaining from the early 1900s. The car has been fully restored for use as a home and boasts modern touches such as air conditioning, heating, and a flat-screen television. The former owner of the caboose and the land it sits on has died, and the property is being auctioned. The caboose and the rail segment it sits on will be auctioned Aug. 18 by Salvadore Auctions. Company president Michael Salvadore said the train car is “the coolest thing on wheels.”
