Elizabeth Warren’s politics rooted in academia

Elizabeth Warren was a fresh-faced 29-year-old who had just finished a grueling day of interviews for her first major job in academia when her prospective colleagues, all men, took her to dinner at a Houston steakhouse.

One of the senior professors, a polio survivor who used a wheelchair and was infamous for needling young recruits, ordered a giant slab of meat. When it arrived, he pushed the plate in front of Warren.

Now if the Globe could only get half as much information on Obama. That would be news.

Awesome reporting. I thought I knew a lot about Lizzie. I admire her even more. Thanks.

If this account is corroborated and it seems it has it sources, there is only one conclusion. Elizabeth Warren's life journey encompasses the highest values of both liberals and conservatives. Her biography shows gumption, boot strap energy, loving parents, high intellect, an allegiance to working middle class Americans, and nurturing relationships built on the bedrock of public education. The only ones she will disappoint are those who want to maintain a patriarchal society or a privileged position because they got richer than most folks. She is as close to the real deal as one could hope in a candidate to represent the people of Massachusetts. Not letting her do so given her life story would be our loss. She deserves a good look and your vote. She is and has worked hard for it.

So you prefer Scott Brown's tales of Kings and Queens, juvenile delinquency, unproven sexual molestation, sports scholarship, and trickle down ideology. I'm sorry such an American success story gives you indigestion but it shows someone has shortchanged you and Sen Brown's magic wand is going to hand you a better life. Dream on or keep puking if you must.

The facts according to Elizabeth Warren and the Democrat Party: 1. She does have Native American Herigage. 2. She did say she was Native American in a directory used for hiring by Harvard. 3. Affirmative Action is a good policy. So I ask, given these 3 "facts", why doesn't the Warren Campaign and the Democrat party say she was an Affirmative Action hire, instead of constantly saying that she got the job on merit? If there is no problem with the policy of affirmative action, and Warren clearly was eligible given her heritage, why not trumpet her as a successful example of the great policy?

Wow, I knew the Globe favored EW but this is going above and beyond. What is true is that she is not native american, she falsely listed herself as a minority to gain an upper hand, and she continues to lie about it. The Globe is doing everything in its power to make everyone believe she was just some poor sole. Not buying it.

And of course add in the fact that at the time of her hire, Harvard was under pressure to diversify, AND they subsequently claimed and reported Warren as a minority hire for years. Folks, it all adds up to being an affirmative action hire, why not embrace it as did fellow "affirmative action baby" Justice Sotomayor?

Excellent article, Globe. Liberals may be a bit confused by her gender politics. Elizabeth Warren is what being a feminist is all about. She is a "real" feminist, not the special rights, shrill shell of a politically correct liberal version. Scott Brown is not a bad guy, but Elizabeth deserves our vote. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> doxieman, ..."I almost lost mt breakfast after reading the article." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> And it was right there in front of you the whole time (age makes things difficult)! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> qccitizen, "...What to do when the record shows that Harvard Law had never, ever hired a law school professor from a third-rate public law school -- except for the one who falsely claimed to be Native American?" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> It's the person, not the school -- so is this is a slam against Harvard, don't you think.

Yes, it doesn't mention charges of academic misconduct, "cooking the numbers" to get the desired result on medical bankruptcies. And of course there isn't inclusion of the several cases of plagiarism in her "Native American" cookbook, Pow Wow Chow. MMmmmm.... high plains crab, an old family recipe!

The only reason she's in Mass is because of getting a job at Harvard, she certainly has no roots here.

Yes, notice how Romney fulfills all requirements and gives 2 years of tax returns and the press continually hammers him to give more? Meanwhile, many departments under Obama ignore federally required Freedom of Information Act requests, and you don't read a thing about that. Why does the media totally fail during important campaigns? Whether it is this current total lack of interest in covering anything negative about Obama, or the lack of interest in George Bush's failures in his National Guard duties while attacking war veteran Kerry, to the incredible failures to honestly report the facts on the road to war with Iraq. The media get's it wrong on the big issues so often.

Neither did Mitt.

Did you even bother to read the article? It discusses that very issue in depth. Guess it's easier to rant.

Do you have any evidence that "the ONLY reason Warren go her jobs was that she claimed Indian heritage?" Beyond hatred, I mean.

migh, "The only reason she's in Mass is because of getting a job at Harvard, she certainly has no roots here. " >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> So you think that only those with "roots" here can benefit the state? The biggest problem with this state is that there are too many people who are blind in the same way. That's why the politics is so secret and why the last 3 Speakers on Beacon Hill have been indicted, and why so many more would be if the Probation Department scandal ever really breaks open. (Am I wrong in thinking that the tribe will crush anyone who talks?; You live by the tribe, you die by the tribe; Cowards) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The cure for incest is not to bring in another less-well-known member of the family. Republicans could have potentially helped but they mostly seem to have come to believe their own propaganda -- the ideology developed to appeal to their most unsophisticated of their supporters. (for instance, you'd have to be a Republican or stupid to think that the cure for economic meltdown caused by lack of regulation of banks and mortgage brokers, blowing up money (spendthrift defense spending), and loopholes for billionaires is less regulation and no increased taxes for billionaires.

westernSuburbDad - did you read the article? It discusses the charges of academic misconduct at length. She was exonerated. You might want to think about why your hatred of her is so consuming that you make stuff up.

You got that right!

Let's see what the Globe FORGOT to include in its free campaign ad for Elizabeth Warren. Controversity over her 1/32 heritage, and did she move up the ladder using it. Did Harvard KNOWLINGLY go along with this ruse in order to get the federal government to stop complaining about Harvard Law's "lack of diversity"? ---(And as an aside, Michelle Obama wrote a paper that loudly complained that Harvard Law discriminated aganst women and minorities)----Elizabeth Warren announced that she was the "intellectual foundation" for the now defunct "Occupy Boston/Wall Street movement). Although Elizabeth was obviously proud of this, Globe doesn't mention it. Why not, Globe?-----And Elizabeth Warren's original version of "You didn't build that on your own, you needed roads and bridges, etc. See http://www.didntbuildthat.com

Did you read the article? It discusses her heritage and Harvard at length.

Miker6, "Let's see what the Globe FORGOT to include in its free campaign ad for Elizabeth Warren. Controversity over her 1/32 heritage..." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Only stupid people focus on a tiny thing -- whether it is a tiny thing that is true or not true -- and ignore everything else. People aren't perfect, and don't have perfect records -- and what she did may have even been both correct and appropriate (or it may not). (I also did not hold it against a certain person that he or she could not spell "potatoe").
