Senator Scott Brown called on Representative Todd Akin of Missouri Monday to withdraw from the US Senate race in his state, after Akin suggested that women’s bodies can somehow prevent pregnancy in cases of rape.
Brown was among the first prominent Republicans to call for Akin to end his Senate bid. In doing so, Brown jumped ahead of the issue before his opponent, Elizabeth Warren, and fellow Democrats began a concerted effort to tie him to the controversy.

Totally agree with Scott Brown on this one. I'm a right-leaning, staunchly "pro choice" Libertarian and I was horrified by the ignorance that Akin spoke with. I can understand an occasional poor choice of words but that man needs a slap upside the head for the entirety of what rolled out of his mouth.
By Monday morning, top Republican officials were calling on Akin to resign, with strategist Mike Murphy summarizing the sentiment in a tweet: "Akin should put good of GOP first and resign nomination now after his idiotic comment. Senate control too important." This is why I cannot vote for Scott Brown. He would help the rightwing gain control of the Senate.
You are honestly shocked that he holds this opinion? Do you ever listen to the drivel that comes out of tea party mouths. And please don't respond by stating that liberals say dumb things. That is not what I am saying. I am asking if you don't hear tea party rightwingers constantly saying ridiculous things.
Akin misspoke? I guess! I would not (were I a Mass. voter) vote for Scott Brown, but he is right about what Akin needs to do.
Horrible comment and he should get out of the race. I know how much liberals HATE Scott Brown but please don't try to link him to this jerk. By the way, I don't see the same condemnation towards VP Biden for his "putting them back in chains" comment." He is just as dumb as this guy.
Absolutely right. When it comes to the crunch on criminalizing abortion, Scott Brown will be there when Mitch McConnell needs him. If you have a daughter, pray that the Republicans don't take over the Senate too. If they do, the real war on women will start and Scott Brown will enable it. Brown will vote for the Blount-Rubio Amendment and this time it will pass!
Does Brown favor legalized abortion or is he pro choice? Big difference.
Brown should stop caucusing with these people. He is always saying he doesnt believe what they do.
Brown will do what Mitch McConnell tells him to do. This includes supporting Republican proposals to limit the legality of abortions only to cases of "forcible" rape. He has supported such proposals in the past. Scott Brown also voted for the Blount-Rubio Amendment which would allow employers to deny coverage of any reproductive health care services for their female employees if their "conscience" told them to do so. In spite of his professed sensitivity to women's issues, Brown is and will continue to be a good soldier in the Republicans war on low-income and middle class women. He is and will remain a loyal member of the Republican caucus. Heaven help your daughters if the Republicans get a majority in BOTH the Senate and the House.
Lizzy the bankruptcy prof is attempting to hew herself to the Demomob's unitary line on this issue and that... in this case, ladies' matters. No matter the details, Scott Brown is a mysoginist by Lizzy's lights unless he falls under the rubric of whatever dogma NOW and Emily's list and all the other feminist mobs try to dictate. Lizzy was briefly exposed as something of a dubious feminist in last Sunday's Glob profile which noted that this Havard Law woman avoided supporting a feminist law professor being considered for tenure a few years back. Imagine Lizzy doing that today! The Globe's Noah Bierman assigns a timing to Brown's condemnation of the misspoke Missouri solon who is entangled in all the rape issue controversy - Brown's aparently successful effort to avoid Lizzy's bombast and probable accusations that Brown would be an anti-feminist if he had not spoken up so soon - despite Brown's family of wife and daughters with whom he is charmingly close and supportive. Sorry, Lizzy, you were too busy trying to think up some sort of new mentoring for the Occupy Harvard Square mob, say what?
So Brown's fast reply negates his support for Ryan's proposal to criminalize rape-related abortions if the rape was not "forcible", as well as his vote in support of Blount-Rubio? Give me a break!
https://www.scottbrown.com/issues/womens-issues/ Pro-choice, supports Roe V Wade, supports abortion but opposes forcing taxpayers to fund it. Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, but I think we need to do more to reduce the amount of abortions, I'm against partial-birth abortions. I'm against federal funding of abortions. I believe in a strong parental consent notification laws. Sounds right to me, safe and legal but no reason for taxpayers to pay the bill.
OK we'll link Scott Brown to the Republican Platform. Even though Romney and Brown are from the same state and use the same campaign manager, he is not stepping on stage to address a national audience. It might even be a platform to tone down the rhetoric of the Tea Party Wing of his party. His choice to remain silent at the Convention speaks volumes. He is truly risk averse.
