Cohasset police find 300 pounds of illegal fireworks during wedding reception at mansion

A fireworks display was supposed to be the perfect ending to a wedding reception in Cohasset Saturday night, but that plan came to an abrupt end when Cohasset police stepped in and seized nearly 300 pounds of illegal and highly explosive fireworks.

“We’re not talking about a couple of sparklers,” Cohasset Deputy Police Chief William Quigley said today. “Some were the size of 3-inch mortar shells.”

Don't you just love this State? You can go in almost any other direction and load up on these items, which I have done for many years, and then just have some fun. Do people sometimes get hurt? Sure, but that happens every day with everything from stovetops to knitting needles and getting bitten by domesticated animals. Why for the love of God do we need to be protected from ourselves?

Its simple - the state wants permit fees and the police/fire unions want detail money.

"seized nearly 300 pounds of illegal and highly explosive fireworks." Those are the best kind. Non-highly explosive fireworks pretty much suck.

If you could guarantee that only you would be hurt, then fine. But look what happened to that little boy in New Hampshire recently. You start shooting off "highly explosive" fireworks, how can you be certain nobody else gets hit?

Good for the Cohasset police! They did the right thing. People can be so irresponsible, ignorant and arrogant about the use of fireworks. Don't they care about other people's safety?

You have entirely the wrong attitude. You load up on these items, even though people who know more than you do have shown them to be dangerous if not handled by professionals? And you are bragging about that? I wouldn't!

No. Fire department doesn't want firemen to die when some amateur idiot thinks he can handle explosives. And yes, you have to pay the fees, because the average taxpayer shouldn't have to pay so you can play with dangerous toys.
