MGM Resorts International announced plans for an $800 million casino development in Springfield.
"Today is our coming out party," said Jim Murren, CEO of MGM.
MGM wants to build a gambling resort, entertainment complex, and housing development in downtown Springfield.
In the process, the casino company hopes it will be rebuilding areas of the city severely damaged by a 2011 tornado.
The project would be the first casino proposal in Massachusetts in a distinctly downtown urban setting.
