The state’s leading antiabortion group said Thursday that it plans to support Senator Scott Brown’s reelection campaign, potentially undercutting the Republican’s effort this week to distance himself from his party’s support for strict antiabortion measures.
“We consider him a senator who votes prolife,” said Anne Fox, president of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life. “We have to take his word for it when he says he is prochoice. But what we’re looking for is someone who votes prolife, and he does.”

Brown said "I have a long record of this already," he said. "I'll promise that. I've already been on record on that---But we all know, that the blatently biased Globe is going to make this an issue anyway.
What makes these prolife people think they should overturn something that was settled over 39 years ago? Abortion is a personal decision. They should not politicalize their agenda. If you are against abortion then don't have one.
The majority of Americans fall in the grey middle ... abortion should be safe and available in the first 10 weeks, late term/partial birth abortion should be extremely rare and only when the life of the mother is endangered. But of course, 'available' doesn't mean taxpayers pay for it. Senator Brown is in agreement with this view of abortion. Warren is showing herself to be a Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi divisive politician, saying anything to get elected. She will push our politics in a negative, more partisan direction.
So only Scooter Brown and his campaign seem to think he is prochoice, in spite of having one of the best antichoice records out there. A man who will lie like that before he is elected will most certainly find himself free to do as he wants and lie about it after.
I can't understand why the issue of partial birth abortions keeps getting brought up, since there has been a ban on them since 2003? Clearly, Scott Brown only poses as a"pro-choice" repub to get votes here in MA, he knows he wouldn't have a chance otherwise, but he is not and does not vote pro-women! He's PAC gives money to pro-life, ultra-conservative repubs. If you talk the talk you need to walk the walk...he's very good and talking the talk!!!
I am a committed Conservative. However, I am also pro choice. That issue does not belong to either Republicans or Democrats. Every person has their own conscience and the ability to think freely. There are many, many Democrats who are pro life, especially Catholics. That said, it is utterly absurd to call Scott Brown, or Mitt Romney for that matter, anti-women. Brown's entire family is made up of women and he loves them dearly and respects them. To imply otherwise, is not only silly but playing dirty politics. Most women...certainly in Massachusetts...are able to see through this and brush it off as stupid.
I agree with you totally, and am pro life, but I have seen public opinion on this issue turn around significantly over the past 20 years. It's still a long way off to overturn Roe v. Wade and I hope that does not happen.
I'm sure Scott Brown and Mitt Romney care very deeply for the women in their own lives and provide for them all the advantages possible. However, what about the women in our state and country who can't afford and/or do not have heath care for themeselves and their families...what about them? The women who do not have the unlimited resources that these two men have. They both seem content with voting against the interest of women, in favor of the Blunt amendment, against fair pay act, wanting to repeal affordable health care plan, wanting to dismantle medicare (the majority of seniors are women)... BTW-way to be condescending, your own intelligence level shines through when you resort to such name calling.
Paul Ryan voted against Title X which funds family planning clinics and he voted to defund Planned Parenthood. These crucial services are in danger. In fact, many clinics around the US have closed.
I'm voting for Warren, but the above excerpt from this story bothers me. Why is someone tarred by unsolicted support like this? If some Wall Street big wheel came out in support of Warren, would that undercut her message of support of the middle class? The story should be, anti-abortion group plans to support Brown, Senator Brown's response is... end of story
MCL understands that a Republican Majority in the Senate is good for the forced birth movement. That majority is significantly less likely if Brown is not reelected. Whatever sentiments Scott Brown has in favor of a woman's right to decide what happens to her own body are completely irrelevant because they are not shared by the leadership of his party.
One would hope she would have the intgerity not to accept the donation and/or support from an organization that does not jive with her beliefs! Why would a so called "pro-choice" candidate accept a donation and/or support from a pro-life organization unless, of course, if said politician is in fact really pro-life???
This is not a trivial matter. Consider the republican candidate running for sheriff in Hillborough County, New Hampshire who said that he would use deadly force to prevent an abortion (http://www.unionleader.com/article/20120824/OPINION01/708249940)! We used to refer to nutcases like him as domestic terrorists but now he's considered a mainstream republican. How far to the right does this political party have to go for Scott Brown to distance himself from it?
Good points, if you think that religious organizations should fund birth control and abortion, you can definitely fault Brown for the Blunt Amendment. He did vote against defunding Planned Parenthood. To me, the problem is that we still have health care tied to your employment, that should have been the first thing fixed by the ACA. You lose your job, you lose your healthcare? How much does that effect women? Also, how much does the unemployment crisis effect women? If the answer is 'not much', vote Obama!
He voted against defunding Planned Parenthood. He believes that religious organizations should be able to get exceptions, and he was against the Affordable Care Act for many reasons. It's one thing to be pro-choice, and quite another to think that religious organizations or taxpayers have to pay for it.
I'm pro-choice and support Scott Brown. Neither he nor Elizabeth Warren are going to change Roe v. Wade, this is not an issue in 2012. The economy, national debt, respect for people who create jobs -- these are the issues.
Did you read the article? Where in the article does it state that Brown accepted a donation or even support from the MCL? Try reading before you post; it really does help make a more informed comment.
If re-elected, Scott Brown will vote for Mitch McConnell for Majority Leader. That's it. Anti-choice in the extreme, as well as a vote for lower taxes on the wealthy, erosion of Medicare, backwards motion on health care reform, deregulating Wall Street, on and on. That's what this election is about, I think.
He might be voting for a Supreme Court Justice. Maybe he should be asked about that. Will he go against his party then? What about invading Iran since Romney will be surrounded by neo-conservative advisers including Dick Cheny? Will he vote for that. Usually I would agree if he showed some real independence in his voting and he hasn't. He is also Wall St.'s go to person.
