Maine State Police have charged a 10-year-old girl in a baby’s death in Fairfield. Police announced the manslaughter charge Thursday, a day after the baby’s death was declared a homicide. Police declined to identify the girl, who is scheduled in juvenile court in October. Detectives investigating the July 8 death of 3-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway of Clinton issued a summons after consulting with the attorney general’s office. Police say a Fairfield baby sitter called police to report that the infant was not breathing, but police declined to say Thursday whether the 10-year-old was the sitter. The girl is being held by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the girl is the youngest person in Maine to be charged with manslaughter in at least 25 years.
