Timothy Murphy’s pickup veered off Washington Street.

A driver was killed Thursday when his pickup truck crashed into a tree on Washington Street in East Bridgewater, police said.

Timothy Murphy, 46, of Whitman, drove a black 1993 Ford F-150 that hit several mailboxes, a telephone pole, and a tree before it swerved into another tree at 1591 Washington St., said East Bridgewater Fire Lieutenant Keith McCartney.

Murphy was the vehicle’s only occupant in the crash, which happened at about 10:17 a.m., authorities said.

East Bridgewater police and firefighters responded to the scene with the State Police accident reconstruction team.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
