Driver backs car into neighbor’s pool

A Malden driver suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when he backed too far into his driveway and ended up in his neighbor’s pool, a fire official said. Malden police said the driver was Philip Malabarba, 85, of Wesmur Road. He first backed his car into his house, ripping an electrical meter off the wall, and then swerved through a fence and into the pool at 33 Grant Road, Malden Fire Lieutenant John Hall said. A neighbor saw the car floating in the water, broke the car’s window, undid the driver’s seat belt, and pulled Malabarba to safety, Hall said. Malabarba, who was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, has not been cited in the accident.
