Rhode Island environmental officials say they have found Eastern equine encephalitis in another batch of mosquitoes in Tiverton. The Department of Environmental Management said Tuesday that a mosquito sample from a pool trapped Aug. 20 in northern Tiverton tested positive. This is the third time EEE has been identified in the state this year. It was found earlier in Tiverton and North Providence. Officials said the species that tested positive feeds almost exclusively on birds. Three pools of mosquitoes have also tested positive for West Nile virus. Officials said a sample of mosquitoes trapped near North Kingstown also tested positive for Highlands J virus.
