Ruling on prisoner’s sex-change a matter of principle
Today I rise to defend something you might think indefensible. But bear with me. I think Judge Mark Wolf made the right call, and a courageous one, in the case of Michelle Kosilek — born Robert — the convicted murderer for whom he ordered state-funded sex-change surgery Tuesday. We may not like the idea that a person like Kosilek benefits from the Constitution’s protections. But if we abridge her right to treatment, what’s to stop us denying it to others?
