Officers arrested a 16-year-old Boston boy after hearing gunshots near Oakhurst Street Wednesday night, Boston police said in a statement.
Police assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force were patrolling the area near Lyford and Oakhurst streets, on the border of Dorchester and Mattapan, and heard the shots at 9:53 p.m., police said.
The officers saw several males chasing another male on Oakhurst Street and ordered the people to stop. The male being chased stopped running and told police that the group had fired shots at him.
Officers found a male trying to hide from police by lying in the backyard of a nearby home, police said.
The suspect had several rounds of ammunition in his pockets and allegedly asked police, “How much time am I going to do for this?”
Police said they found a firearm consistent with the ammunition near the area where the suspect was hiding.
The male was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police said.
