Two pedestrians struck, one killed

Two pedestrians, a man and a young girl, were struck by a driver in a pickup truck Sunday afternoon in Whitman, killing the man, according to Whitman fire and police departments. Edward Cordwell Jr., 38, of Whitman, was pronounced dead at Brockton Hospital. The girl was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Authorities said she was conscious and speaking before being transported for care. The two were struck around 2 p.m. at 230 Temple St., according to the Whitman Fire Department. The driver of the truck was Richard C. Brown, 46, of Attleboro, authorities said. The crash is being investigated. It has not been determined whether he will face charges.
