Boston teachers weigh in on Chicago strike

In an aggressive show of solidarity, Boston teachers took out a full-page advertisement in the Chicago Sun-Times Friday in support of their counterparts in that city, criticizing Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago for his handling of a bitter contract dispute.

At a press conference earlier this week, Emanuel said public school teachers in Boston had settled their contract dispute without a strike, unlike Chicago’s, and had accepted smaller pay raises in their recent contract settlement than Chicago teachers had been offered.

Did the Boston teachers offer to send their Chicago union brethren a sample of MassaChusetts politicians to help put Rahm Emanual in his place: say like Deeval Patrick, the Chicago native who arrived in the Massachusetts State House corner office from Chicago via Milton Academy? Surely, Deeval - Chicago political hack Barry the O's bosom buddy - could offer something to the Chicago teachers.

It's all about the teachers...don't you forget it...

That is a cheap shot by Emanuel at Chicago teachers, and he knows it. I used to think he was better than that. I am very disappointed in him. Maybe he should be staying at home in his City, and studying the actual educational issues involved, instead of doing all that fancy fund raising for the President.
