Patrick may have made T chief pick

Governor Deval Patrick has signaled that he wants Beverly A. Scott, head of the Atlanta transit system, to become general manager of the MBTA, even before the state board that has authority over the appointment interviews the two finalists for the position, say people familiar with the selection process.

Scott is expected to be offered the job at an annual salary of about $225,000, they said.

What, are you kidding me ?

So, For $225,000 a year but the Acting General Manager , if I remember from the Herald article, was going to make $150,000 so Deval Patrick just adds another $75,000 to taxpayers bill ? No wonder fare increases are needed. This is exactly why barack obama will be picking up his bags on November 7th. People are sick of this type of stuff.

Although both candidates have excellent credentials, I must say I hope the Governor chooses Beverly Scott. Having worked with RIPTA, which she headed, for a short term as a consultant, I can say she's a dynamo, creative, totally plugged in to the national transit scene and federal funding opportunities, always engaged with transit users and employees, an enthusiast for the potential of every transit mode and an advocate for public transit and for the system where she's working. She also wants her transit system to be the best, and seemed to enjoy competing with others. Perhaps the MBTA CAN be the best. Hmmmmm....then what would we have to complain about?
