The campaign, which kicks off Saturday, follows seven years of financial and academic improvements at the school, and two years of a “quiet phase” of fund-raising that has already raked in $420 million. But it also coincides with upcoming fund-raisers by other local colleges, including Harvard, MIT, and Northeastern. BU also has had to deal with a difficult string of bad publicity — most recently a report that alleged a pattern of troubling behavior by members of the BU hockey team.
