Elizabeth Warren defends work on asbestos lawsuit

Democratic candidate for Senate also gives tentative support to ballot questions on medical marijuana, physician-assisted suicide

During a wide-ranging hour-long radio interview today, Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren defended her representation of an insurance company in an asbestos lawsuit, and indicated tentative support for medical marijuana and physician-assisted suicide, two issues that will appear on the November ballot in Massachusetts.

“If there’s something a physician can prescribe that can help someone who is suffering, I am in favor,” Warren said when asked about the medical marijuana ballot question, adding that there have to be the “right restrictions.”

you forgot the real bomnbshell. She is so dishonest.

Speaking to Boston's 96.9 FM radio program "Jim and Margery" on Monday, Democratic Senate challenger Elizabeth Warren admitted that she is not licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.

According to reports from listeners, she claimed that she does not maintain a law practice. She also "said that she gave up her New Jersey  license because she could not keep up with the Continuing Education requirements," according to one listener who commented on Breitbart's Monday story, "Does Elizabeth Warren Have a Law License Problem?".

Ms. Warren's statement comes as a surprise to the many clients she's provided legal services to over the past decade, including the law firm of Simpson, Thacher, and Bartlett, which listed her as "of counsel" in the 2009 brief they submitted to the United States Supreme Court on behalf of their client, Travelers Insurance.

So wait, your quoting a commentator on a Breitbart column as a source?  And you want us to take you seriously?  ROFL!

I assume it is illegal to practice law w/out a license, correct? Also, did she tell the people she represented this? Could the cases she worked on be over turned?

So you are "disliking" a fact. Typical liberals

Even the source you linked to says only that she "may never have obtained a license to practice law there, and may be unlicensed to practice anywhere at the moment, new evidence suggests."  Calling it a fact is wishful hearing.  It's a smear.

ESF - please explain why Breitnbart is not a legitimate source and CHris Mathew and Rachel Maddow are?

I don't see anyone quoting either Mathews or Maddow.  Besides, you quoted the Breitbart comments section, not Breitbart.  What's next, citing TheSystemWorked?

The comments section? Wrong. I also posted the original source.

When Drudge broke the Monica Lewinsky story years ago, it was dismissed because of the source, just like they are trying to dismiss the Breitbart story now.  I remember a haughty George Stephanopolous, then a flack for Clinton, ridiculing Drudge.  We all know what happened then, and what may happen again with this law license story.  It's not going away.  First the tabloids will pick it up, then the broadsheets, and before you know it it's mainstream.

Except no-one ridiculed Brietbart. BeGolfing made that up.

ah, no. you got your facts wrong.

Gosh all golly gee... wasn't Granny Lizzy just the cleverest she ever did be during this radio chat? She thinks Sen.Scott Brown is "cute" as if he was one of her grandchildren... and she be who she be and there, take that, she says to all them doubters of her claims to be a squaw in some parts of the Cherokee and/or Delaware Indian nations. . . But no Harvard job records? Nope, Lizzy thinks those are private. . . and she wants folks smoking weed (for medical purposes, of course), and she managed to parse all that parsing about the Travelers avoidance of asbestos illness payments to workers, and she just didn't happen to be carrying a list of corporate clients she has represented (and maybe didn't remember any???). And most important of all, her just most fav tv drama show is that homeland security horrow, which Barry the H.O. Grade in the White House just loves to share as his fav with Lizzy the Granny. Has Lizzy had a non-Obama grey cells synapsis lately? She should really tell us, and will likely do so, as soon as she signs on with some Indian group or other and releases her Harvard employment records. Uh huh. . . .

Elizabeth, NOTHING could keep me from voting for you. My only regret is that I have but one vote. I LOVE this woman and for Mass to have this GIFT of a person who is on the side of the 99% against the corporate bankster behemoths is TERRIFIC news for me and should NOT be passed up you. Brown though his voting record while he tries to move center truthfully he is not and votes 80% with Republicans and is given high marks by the Anti choice groups. He is in the Republican camp which is against equal rights for women, against and against seniors and all of us who will benefit and be protected against the corporate giants who want to choke us. Contraception SHOULD as Elizabeth says be paid for by insurance companies. If you are religiously against contraception fine DON'T USE IT. If you are against gay marriage by all means DO NOT enter into one but leave my personal life to me! Brown says he's pro choice but he CLEARLY is not. He is Republican and will vote with a party that is becoming more irrelevant as the years pass. She set up -- let me say that again -- she ACTUALLY set up the Consumer Protection Bureau for the Obama Administration. She is a diamond -- a GEM whose election could only help the middle class and those who are economically hurting because of the bankster induced Great Recession of 2008. Moreover, majority/minority party MATTERS big time. When Elizabeth said Inhofe the ignorant would assume the position of chair of environment protection YOU MUST worry. Inhofe thinks climate change is a hoax. Let him keep touting that position as the sea ice melts and as the oceans continue to rise and there will NOT be a darn thing anyone can do about it. NOW is the time to work to reverse this sickeningly frightening trend and Warren will be with science and its undeniable truth! Yes, the system that chugs down corporate cash that chokes the little guy is at fault in both parties BUT and emphasize BUT Republicans take it to the level of Everest. Sure banks and the big guns need representation and Scotty Brown will be SURE they get it. Warren will protect US instead of big corporate cash. Go get them Elizabeth. The ethnicity issue was sickeningly and brutally slung by Brown as the bully he surely appears to be! DO NOT be fooled by his looks OR his truck. Scott Brown is NOT for most of you!

Good to see that you're open to opposing view points. I'm curious as to why even though Liz Warren has clearly been caught in at least 2 lies that's acceptable to you yet Scott Brown's stated pro-choice position, which he has clearly stated for years, is a false claim. There's a rather significant percentage of Republicans that are pro-choice just as there is a significant percentage of Democrats that are pro-life. Warren will lose in the end because she lacks integrity. She's a fraud but you're too blind to see it.

esfsdfsdf - please show me proof of a personal vendetta

I suspect you already know this, but William A. Jacobson of Legal Insurrection is the source and chief instigator of the "Liawatha" attack. Also a Scott Brown supporter and contributor. Read just one example of his anti-Warren rants here: http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/06/elizabeth-warren-loses-it-lashes-out-at-right-wing-extremist-me/

So you do not have proof - just opinion?

She doesn't have a license to practice law in Massachusetts?   Sounds like a class action suit from anyone who paid top dollar for her representation is something a consumer advocate might consider!

http://www.newstalk969.com/podcast/index.aspx     2:15 from the end. Got a law license in Massachusetts? Nope.  Practice in Massachusetts?   Nope.

Dislike that Breitbart guy if you like, and label a Cornell law professor some kind of political kook. But there is a serious question starting to spread over Massachusetts about the professional status and the veracity of the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, one Elizabeth (Herring) Warren. Now it may turn out in the end to be merely a matter of unnoticed history, but the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers has no record of Elizabeth Warren being registered to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Far worse are allegations by Cornell Law Professor William A. Jacobson that Warren has listed her Harvard Law School office as her primary place of practice even on a Texas bar registration she gave up long ago and has become ineligible to practice in that state. The list of questions put forth by Jacobson is long, indeed, and includes Prof. Warren representing various factions associated with legal cases filed by the AARP as well as untility companies. Again, it may turn out that these matters are null and void in a legal sense, but their spreading presence on the Internet is sure to raise questions in voters' minds, and may be cause for criticism of the professor by the Sen. Scott Brown re-election campaign staff.

also adds to a number of questionable actions.

This, of course, is the only point of the article: "their spreading presence on the Internet is sure to raise questions in voters' minds."

It's just like Associate Clinical Professor Jacobson's earlier "Liawatha" smear.

One's left wondering what his connection with the Brown campaign really is.  Besides being an out of state contributor, I mean.

There appears to be a larger problem than what we first thought: Poor Elizabeth Warren, appears not to understand her role or the consequences of her role with Travellers, although, she has never said she didn't understood the size of the check she received from the Insurance Company for her counsel.

But there is also the problem that poor Professor Warren didn't understand her heritage! Yes, indeed, there is a very large problem festering here. One that I have never heard called transparency - It is much more serious than that.

p.s. It looks like "boatwrote" posted more historical background investigative research on Elizabeth Warren: Perhaps, the Huffington Post, Herald, Globe, NYT or Washington Post or credible media (?) will fact check the Warren stories catching fire on the Internet. This could be a HUGE, HUGE story.

Actually just repeated allegations from breitbart without attribution.

not "allegations." LI has laid out the argument and facts  -appears to be pretty straight forward.. There is also a great comment on LI that goes through what lawyers can and can't do w/out a license. Might be fine, but strange that she will not disclose her work and she dropped her NJ license  - but a non-lawyer here

at the least this deserves an inquiry from the Globe about what this means.

the intersting thing about this to me is that MA is a microcosm of the presidential election. Hard dem state tha spins news or does not report bad news about a dem candidate. same as the national election. regardless of affiliation, you should be concerned with the disinformation coverage of the msm. what goes around comes around and the news landscape is changing. the 4th estate is crumbling before our eyes. it will be intersting to see where our kids get their informaiton.
