The state transportation board voted unanimously Monday to name Beverly A. Scott, head of Atlanta’s transit system, as the next general manager of the MBTA. Scott, an industry leader courted by state officials, will be the first woman and second African-American general manager in T history. A former professor and White House honoree, Scott, 61, has worked in high levels for some of the nation’s largest transit agencies and has run the transit systems in Providence, Sacramento, and Atlanta.
