Police step up patrols around Boston University after robberies

Police have stepped up patrols around Boston University after three students were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon in broad daylight in Brookline near the campus, just days after two students were robbed several blocks away.

No injuries were reported, no arrests have been made, and police have not determined whether the crimes might be connected, authorities said Wednesday.

The university’s news website, BU Today, said those who reported the robberies are students at the school.

On Tuesday, officers responded to Egmont and St. Paul streets shortly after 5 p.m. when three males reported being robbed at gunpoint while walking home from Commonwealth Avenue, a Brookline police report said.

Three males followed the students before one walked in front of them, pulled out and cocked a black semiautomatic handgun, placed the gun against the stomach of one of the students, the report said.
