Killing is first homicide in city since 2010

The men were shot in a car parked on Spencer Avenue about 12:20 a.m. when a car drove by them and a gunman opened fire, Kyes said.

“The two victims were both seated in a car talking to two women on the street when the suspect vehicle opened fire,” said Kyes. “One victim was struck several times and later pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital. The other victim was grazed in the bicep.”

Kyes said State Police pursued a blue sports utility vehicle fitting the description of the car that fled the scene in Chelsea. Troopres stopped the vehicle in Revere, where two men were taken into custody for questioning, police said. Two other men fled the scene.

No arrests have been made in the case, authorities said. Ballistic evidence was recovered from the scene.

Chelsea had 11 murders in 2010. There were no homicides in 2011, according to Kyes.
