REVERE — Mayor Dan Rizzo will try to acquire the Wonderland Greyhound Park property for the city in his casino negotiations with nearby Suffolk Downs, as the first piece of an ambitious plan to bring the New England Revolution professional soccer team to Revere.
“It’s a very important property to the future of the city of Revere,” said Rizzo, speaking of the shuttered dog racing track near Revere Beach. “It’s definitely something I’d like to see in play as we consider mitigation.”

Excellent, another casino-linked roadblock to the North Shore. Folks who live in Newburyport will have to either take a train or head out Route 93 to 128 to 95 to get home from Boston. And wait until Mayor Rizzo has another idea and decides to put toll booths on Route 1 and Route 1A, except for those drivers who can prove they are headed to a Revolution game or the Suffolk Downs slots.
If it doesn't come with the I-95 extension that was cancelled 40 years ago, you're crazy! No one will ever get there before game time AND everyone else will miss their flights from Logan!
Boo to you, sir.
I've lived in Revere for 30 years now and I've watched it grow and thrive. Wonderland Park 20 years ago was so popular that it had an overflow parking lot where the Marketplace strip mall now sits. And that was every night, not for an occasional soccer game.
It will be great for the city to have the Revolution here.
You can ignore the comments by user_4408549 and boatwrote because they're negative about everything -- you name it, *everything*. It's sad. And they don't live in Revere, thank God.
Oh, and there's excellent public transportation to the dog track. The newly rebuilt Wonderland subway and bus station is right across the street. It opened July 1. There are frequent buses (at least every half hour) from points north.
This would be an extremely positive addition, especially given its location on the Blue Line. Hope it develops into something more than just talk.
