Maine island post offices extend hours

The US Postal Service has agreed to extend the hours of post offices on three Maine islands. Members of Maine’s congressional delegation said the Postal Service had proposed keeping the post office on Cliff Island open only two hours a day and keeping the post offices on Matinicus and Monhegan islands open for four hours. Senator Susan Collins and Representative Chellie Pingree said they objected to the shorter hours and have since learned the Postal Service has reconsidered and will keep all of three of the post offices open for six hours a day.
