Roxbury mother freed amid state drug lab scandal
Standing in the administrative offices of the South Middlesex Correctional Center, Mylazia Johnson was handed a letter from her attorney. At first, she didn’t quite understand the import of the news it contained: She had a court date Sept. 28. And she could be released. On Friday, Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Connors halted Johnson’s sentence and released her on personal recognizance. She is one of more than 20 people freed following allegations that a state chemist mishandled drug samples.
