Friendship, politics collide through social media

Southie gym owner John Clarke is a social liberal and fiscal conservative. During election season, that means one thing: When he scrolls through his Facebook feed, he’s well positioned to be annoyed by almost everybody.

“A lot of people are stupider than I thought they were,” Clarke said over lunch at a West Broadway sub shop. “That includes relatives and close friends.”

You forgot the flip side, Beth, of the snarky comment about people being annoyed by others' Facebook posts: "Are my political posts bothering you? I'm sorry, I just thought choosing another leader was worth a little discussion. By all means, show me another picture of your dinner."

'If you are a Republican at age 20, you have no heart. If you are not a Republican by age 30, you have no brain.' Get a refund from the liberal arts college you wasted your money on and grow-up. You can't spend $3.5 trillion when your country only makes $2.5 trillion. The markets are waiting to see a reduction in spending, NOT an increase in tax revenues. This country is going absolutely nowhere until the markets see spending cut. Romney is the way out of this mess boys and girls. And you shouldn't need a PhD in economics to know that by now.

Stop falling for the ignorant fantasies and you'll be a lot better off in life.  You were injured by the simple truth.  Good luck with that...

How sad that we have degenerated into a society where the prevailing sentiment is: if you do not share my opinion you are an enemy.

This piece is leaving me happy I decided to resist the siren song of social media. I can add maintenance of family peace to my reasons. :-)

I feel a kindred spirit in John Clarke and thought this was a fun piece. Well played, Beth Teitell.
