Marsha Epstein has been traveling from one end of the state to the other on the Massachusetts Turnpike since 1966, but she’s never seen a traffic jam like the 45-mile backup on Friday night.
“It was unbelievable,” said Epstein, 64, of Newton. She and her husband set off for Philadelphia to visit their grandson at around 3:30 — plenty of time, they thought, to beat the traffic. Instead, they found themselves sitting in gridlock for 2½ hours before they even reached their exit toward New York. “It’s amazing our marriage was still intact,” she said with a laugh.

Close the tolls on holidays and some of he holiday weekends!!! No holiday overtime will alleviate some of the loss of toll money!!
Come on - come on - take off the Dunce-caps & put on the thinking caps:
1. FEWER cash toll booths & twice as many E-Z-PASS lanes
2. Better placement of the E-Z-PASS lanes, in a row, on the LEFT when exiting
3. Cash TOLL booths, in a row, on the RIGHT SIDE of exits,
4. Lastly, - FIRE- the person who is supposed to be the “decision-maker” for the MA Turnpike: He is not worth a state salary or benefits plan.
Democrats ruined your holiday weekend with a three hour traffic jam JUST TO COLLECT A TAX!! Democrats, you can easily raise this money without putting people's lives at risk and without ruining their holiday weekend by using something other than a dangerous toll booth to collect a TAX! It's absurd! Forget EZ lane: take down all the toll booths and increase other taxes to offset it. Toll booths were already dangerous; now they're in the way!! Democrats, it is not necessary to ruin EVERY holiday weekend in this state, just so that you can collect a tax! Vote against every Democrat this fall. It is the only way to restore some sanity.
People with transponders should get a discount. Then more people would get free transponders.
Hey guess what folks- the leaves turn color every year and they get duller with each passing autumn. And if you can stand the wait, they'll change where you live, too!
