For AFL-CIO, a makeup test

Steve Tolman says it will be different this time.

If the special election of 2010 was traumatic for Democrats, it was positively cataclysmic for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Tolman now leads.

While there is no doubt that unions have their place, you would have to be naive to think unions over the decades haven't played a major role in creating inflation.

Replies

If being paid decent wages and benefits for work that contributes to the economy causes some minor inflation, that is not a negative. Of course if you have better wages and are healthier you spend it on the economy most people work in. Better wages mean better prosperity for everyone. Sequestering cash in upper income levels just takes it out of circulation since much of that is not spent. So make up your mind. Is it better to improve the working classes outlook for the economy, helping many or keeping down wages and pushing profits to those who don't need it. It is a matter of value. Is a working person's work important to prosperity of the nation or does it belong to a few who don't contribute to the betterment of the nation.

"Senator Brown" to you, Abraham! What's with the appellation "Brown" throughout your text?...ever wonder why the Globe circulation continues to dwindle?

Replies

Why didn't you also include Tolman and Warren in your knitpicking complaint? Your bias toward Brown is showing therefore undermining your psuedo concern.

Senator Brown has been a true public servant working for many years for Massachusetts residents.

There are too many voters who DO NOT KNOW Senator Brown, and regretably, there arealso  too many voters who DO NOT KNOW Prof. Warren, but are willing to believe both Warren's & the Democrat lore.

Replies

Prof. Warren has an impressive record working for ordinary hard working people if you care to read about her. Senator Brown has a record working for the wealthy and prosperous who incidentally are NOT in a recession. Brown voted against extending unemployment benefits and he has a history of gay bashing which includes the former Senator Cheryl Jacques. He also has his daughter covered under the extended portion of his health insurance which he is politically against. Hippocrit! It doesn't take much to read about why we should not vote for him.

"...and his willingness to hold up extensions to unemployment insurance to extract concessions on other issues, such as tax cuts." Imagine! Resisting the indefinite extension of unemployment insurance just because it would cost billions of dollars. Shame on you, Scott!

Replies

Those tax cuts prevent job cuts.  Scott was right.  Three years of Democrat fantasies on economics are enough!

Unions have no advantages in life if the rest of America turns socialist.  If America goes socialist as Obama dreams, everyone else will have the same benefits as unions.  Unions needed a waiver on health insurance but unions won't get a waiver for the other 150 things they will have to take a hit on!  Unions have even more reason to vote for Scott Brown this time than they had last time!!  Unions do best when they are riding on top of the capitalist beast, not cleaning up underneath the socialist cow.  I know why union leadership wants Obama but union membership should be smart enough to vote for their own interests.  Romney is in the union member's interests... whether they understand it or not....

Replies

The national gaurd shot people demonstrating to form unions at their inception, precisely because nitwits called them socialists. As a union member, I take offense at your suggestions as to what unions should do or not do, as your knowledge of organized labor is negligible.

Oh, a union member. Oh gee, let me ask: who is holding your leash today? Get it? Who is holding your leash Mr Union supporter? Get it? Unions protect the weak and incompetent. Socialism makes everyone equally poor (including union members by the way Mr. Brains) and socialism puts fascists in control at the top! Everywhere it is tried! Don't embarrass yourself by proclaiming your ignorance on basic stuff...

The one thing that is clear after three debates is that Liz isn't qualified for the job!! Her childlike refrain of taxing the rich ignores basic economics. Taxing the rich also raises taxes on small businessmen who don't net much money, and it crushes new job creation. That is why Democrats didn't raise taxes when they had all the votes they needed for two years to do so! Because enough of them understand basic economics to know that would only make the problem worse! Liz Warren doesn't seem to have gotten the memo!! Liz Warren pretends that if we just let he tax the rich, all of America's problems will go away, when, in fact, basic knowledge of basic economics should inform her that taxing the rich will crush new jobs because it also taxes small businesses who create all the new jobs. Worse, taxing the rich only brings-in 15% of what Obama wants to spend over the next ten years. The other 85% gets to be paid by YOU the middle class!! You get to pay $5.3 trillion of 'EXTRA' Obama spending! Taxing the rich doesn't come close to solving the problem, any problems, but it puts a wet blanket on job creation. We are spinning our wheels going absolutely nowhere exactly because of this Democrat ignorance of economics. And Liz may be the dumbest of them all repeating this stuff! That she is still repeating the same Democrat economic fantasy three years later should be the final nail in her candidacy.

Increasing the income tax of the rich is not going to kill jobs, plain and simple. The rich are not in a recession. Your exaggerated and alarmist socialist rant is an old, worn out and obsessive tactic always used by Republicans. Remember, Joe McCarthy is dead.

Basic economics: when you raise tax rates on the rich, you also suck-in all of the small business owners who net very little money and who create all the new jobs in this country. You either understand that simple fact or you don't. And surely you understand why Joe McCarthy doesn't even belong in your incredibly ignorant point.

Steve, you're a good guy. I'm a union member. Neither I nor anyone I work with will vote for Warren. She is on another planet.

Replies

You'll wish you were on another planet when the GOP is through ripping up whatever contract you're working under, like Nixon did in 1975.

So Lizzy is bought by the union thugs.   Great for the US if you are on the dole.   Lizzy and Obama needs to loose and end niño unions in the public sector.
