KENNEBUNK, Maine — Most years at this time, when the tourists have left and the snowbirds are not far behind, this quaint coastal town begins to wind down for the winter.
But this fall, the pleasant, proper village down the road from the Bush family compound in neighboring Kennebunkport has been gripped in scandal. A scandal, shall we say, of prurient interest.

Ruin them all, town leaders. Ruin them all. Humiliate the guilty, their wives, their children and extended families. Cost them jobs and good will and their reputations in the community. It will make all of you feel good. Just think of a gloating Howie Carr reading the names on his radio show and making each of you know you have done the right thing. He is even having a poll about this using the possible humiliation of your townspeople as a means to gain ratings and enrich himself. We are all sinners. Keep that in mind as you celebrate the humiliation of your townspeople.
If so many are involved, perhaps they should change the laws. The people have, or should have, control over their prosecutors. If a community wants to change a law or have a law have less of an enforcement, the people have, or should have, control over that. If the whole town is involved, the whole town should be able, or allowed, to put it to rest without the prosecutors...

They broke the law. That makes it public. They lost the right to privacy. If she's being hauled into court they should be hauled into court.
