HAMPTON, Va. — Over the blasting horns of a marching band, Brian Moran, the chairman of the Virginia Democratic Party, yelled into the stands. It was minutes before kickoff at Hampton University’s football stadium on Saturday.
“Governor Patrick from Massachusetts is here!” Moran bellowed, as Deval Patrick waved and the fans stared, or nodded. “He’s here getting the vote out!”

Wonder what his ulterior motive is.
Being from Massachusetts, Governor Patrick is doing what normal supporters of all Parties do when it's "voting" time in this country. The Republicans can criticize as usual about why some Democrat should be doing otherwise, but when it comes time for them to support their Republican candidate, it's OK! Republicans' double-standard is laughable, and so is Romney, their candidate. Didn't vote for Romney when he was a ONE-TERM Governor in MA, and have no intention of voting for him as President. Obama 2012!!!
I would think that the state of MA has a number of pressing issues that need his attention. Not sure any other governors are traveling across the country but tell me if I am incorrect. I do think that his expenses and his governor's salary should be repaid to MA..after all, the state needs are not political. Our tax dollars should not be used to have him tout his friend's relection. It is the Democrats who are laughably hypocritical. Duval should be here doing the job he is paid to do.

Instead of going where the campaign wants you, Governor, how about going where I am paying you to be? As your employer, I expect you to be on the job in Massachusetts.

I know this is going to be tough to understand, mba73, but YOU are not his "employer," and YOU are not paying him, anymore than I am his employer and I am paying him. He works for the Commonwealth and is paid by the Commonwealth. Do you try pulling that line on all governent employees with whom you disagree? The meter maid who gives you a parking ticket?. The teacher who gave your kid a C?
"I pay your salary," is the equivalent of, "Do you know who I am?" A disgusting display or arrogance.
Patrick has always been an absentee governor just like his pal Obama, the absentee president. Thankfully this will be the last term in office for both of them.
Managing effectively through a crisis is more than a phone call here and there. Patrick is deluding himself if he thinks he's doing the job that he was elected to do. The voters of Massachusetts deserve better!!

In addition to being negligent in his duties as governor who is paying his salary and other costs related to these trips as well preparation and followup efforts expended by him and his staff for these numerous campaign duties? Is the democratic party reimbursing MA for these costs?

Patrick made it very clear during his campaign for a 2nd. term: Patrick told voters he planned to do a lot of tavelling (translation: collect a state salary; work for Obama campaign & not in Massachusetts).
Get over it - Patrick is giving you what he promised to provide with a second term.

Politics at election time is one of the things this country is about.
It notable that the complaints about Patrick's campaigning for Obama are coming from the *miniscule* Republican party. And all the complaints on this forum are from the *miniscule" right-wing crowd, who obviously don't have jobs because they spend all their time here. Or maybe they're just stealing the time from their employer.
These people weren't complaining when the previous governor spent nearly his entire last year on the road campaigning for President, and bad-mouthing Massachusetts at that. Of course not; he was a Republican.
Republican hypocrisy gets crazier every day. Romney spent the entire final year as 'governor' (in actuality, he was a full-time candidate for his four years here) launching his presidential campaign around the country. I can't decide if the Republicans were all born that way or if Karl Rove has permeated every fiber of their being. Whatever the case, it is clear that, when they declare something, we can all be sure that the exact opposite is the truth. They wrecked the economy and who was to blame? Clearly, it was the 47%, not the Lords of Industry and Finance. Oh, but wait, those Lords have moved the industry to China and India. And that includes Romney who outsourced Massachusetts jobs to India WHILE HE WAS GOVERNOR! Hypocrisy at its breathtaking finest.
