More than a dozen leaders of the city’s building and trades unions gathered in Dorchester for a hastily called meeting, where they talked about the urgency surrounding the Brown-Warren race. Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the leaders strategized on how to persuade their members to vote for Elizabeth Warren. “How do we get the message to get down and dirty to all your members,” Menino said. “It’s not a beauty contest.”
