Maine earthquake rattles residents around Boston

No injuries in brief event

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck about 30 miles outside of Portland, Maine, on Tuesday night, officials said, shaking the ground throughout New England and surprising thousands of residents who rarely experience the phenomenon.

The quake hit at 7:12 p.m., the US Geological Survey said on its website.

If the universe is going to pull the earth apart on Dec 21, 2012, you would expect these 'unusual' earthquakes in the weeks leading up to The End...  

It was definitely felt at Revere Beach, but it wasn't near as strong as the one last year that caused my apartment building to sway several times.

This one was more interesting than scary. My cat lifted his head and after about a minute went back to sleep.
