NORTH ANDOVER — Television viewers who have endured even a single commercial break lately could be excused for thinking the bitter contest between US Representative John F. Tierney and Republican challenger Richard Tisei revolves around a single issue: how much, if anything, Tierney knew about the illegal gambling ring run by his wife’s brothers.
Neither said a word about that matter Wednesday night in their third debate, avoiding it just as they had in the first debate, and as they nearly did in the second, when only Tierney brought it up to accuse Tisei of an underhanded attack.

I went to the first two debates. The first one, in front of an audience primarily of senior citizens, was polite and thoughtful, perhaps because Mr. Tisei didn't show up. Tierney and Fishman exchanged views as gentlemen. The second one, at North Shore Community College, was quite a contrast, starting with some guy out front on a bull horn shouting insults at Tierney supporters. Why do they do that? He probably was a leftover from the Hudak campaign. Inside, the guy with the best sense of humor was Fishman. I might have to invite him to dinner. I didn't go to the debate tonight and it sounds like it was a good decision..
I'm glad I don't live in their district. I couldn't bring myself to vote for either of these two jerks. No wonder some people prefer to opt out altogether, or waste a vote on an Independent, Green or (gasp) Libertarian.
Is it really a waste of a vote to choose an Independent? I don't live in that district either, but on the larger scale I don't buy the argument that one must choose between Democrat and Republican in state-wide or national votes. If the two major party candidates are truly unworthy I should think even a strategic vote or a vote for the lesser of two evils is just as much a waste of a vote. Just my two cents.
Tierney has been there for 8 terms, 16 years, and doesn't have a SINGLE bill to his name??!?!?! This offensive clown is even more useless than imagined!! Get Tierney out of there! I'd rather have an empty seat altogether than to send Tierney back down there! Not to mention, Republicans will control Washington for much of the next decade and they are planning to CUT. If Massachusetts doesn't want to be on the losing end of every budget the next few years, we are going to have to make sure some Republicans from Massachusetts are in the room when the cutting starts, so that we don't take it on the chin and so that we get our fair share! A token Scott Brown will not be enough to protect Massachusetts in this process. We will also need to send Tisei and Beilat if Massachusetts doesn't want to be robbed of our fair share.
