Schools in Mass. report nearly 3,000 concussions
A partial but worrisome look at head injury crisis
Nearly 3,000 Massachusetts students suffered a head injury or concussion while playing sports last school year, according to reports from 164 schools. The reports from middle and high schools, which were collected under a state law passed in 2010, offer a look at the frequency of the problem among young people at a time when medical experts and sports leagues, from Pop Warner to the NFL, are increasingly worried about the effects of head injuries.
