What to do before the storm

STEPS TO BE PREPARED

Trim or remove weak trees and shrubbery that could fall during strong winds well before the storm hits.

Move in outdoor furniture or bolt it down.

Clear rain gutters to prevent flooding.

Make sure flashlights are working and have extra batteries on hand.

Stock up on food for family members and pets. Plan a few meals that do not require electricity to prepare.

If your basement tends to flood, remove or elevate items stored there.

Keep copies of insurance policies in a secure place.

Ensure all doors and windows close and seal properly.

Charge cellphones, laptops, and any spare batteries in case of a power outage.

Fill prescriptions that are about to run out.

Make sure your car is fully fueled.
