STEPS TO BE PREPARED
■ Trim or remove weak trees and shrubbery that could fall during strong winds well before the storm hits.
■ Move in outdoor furniture or bolt it down.
■ Clear rain gutters to prevent flooding.
■ Make sure flashlights are working and have extra batteries on hand.
■ Stock up on food for family members and pets. Plan a few meals that do not require electricity to prepare.
■ If your basement tends to flood, remove or elevate items stored there.
■ Keep copies of insurance policies in a secure place.
■ Ensure all doors and windows close and seal properly.
■ Charge cellphones, laptops, and any spare batteries in case of a power outage.
■ Fill prescriptions that are about to run out.
