New hospital signs 10-year gas deal

MaineGeneral Medical Center has agreed to buy 10 years’ worth of natural gas for its new regional hospital in Augusta from Maine Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA. Chuck Hays, chief executive officer of MaineGeneral Health, told the Kennebec Journal in Augusta that natural gas would be the hospital’s primary heating source. Using natural gas will save the hospital, due to open in late 2013, about $600,000 per year. Maine Natural Gas started installation earlier this month of a gas pipeline in the Augusta area.
