Team Kermit, racing in memory of Jared Branfman, was among 5,234 cyclists from around the world whose participation in the two-day Pan-Mass Challenge in August helped raise $37 million for cancer research -- $2 million more than last year, said Billy Starr, the event’s founder and executive director. Ridership was up by 1 percent. Branfman died at age 23 when tumors in his spine spread to his brain.
