Acrimony lingers for Tierney, Tisei in 6th District race

PEABODY — If US Representative John F. Tierney on Tuesday becomes the first Massachusetts Democrat knocked from Congress in 20 years, it will be because he has lost voters like Michael Shapiro.

The 49-year-old construction company owner has voted for Tierney every time he has appeared on the ballot. But Shapiro is impressed by Republican Richard Tisei and thinks eight terms may be enough for Tierney, dogged by the gambling scandal engulfing his wife’s family.

When Mr. Tisei is described as a "moderate" it is because his social views mirror those of John Tierney and moderate Democrats.  Certainly he is sensitive to gay issues, which is all to the good.  He is pro-choice and might even be against imposing religious restrictions on health care insurers just as reasonable Democrats are. Health care should not be restricted to anyone because of someone else's religious beliefs.

One of the big issues for me is that the Eric Cantor/Paul Ryan wing of the Republican Party have thrown about 4 million dollars into Mr. Tisei's campaign.  What are they buying? And what is he selling?  They are NOT buying his moderate social views that are pretty Democratic in nature.  And, whether he likes it or not, he is selling his soul and his vote to the folks that would have cut FEMA by 40%, that would favor air pollution over green energy, that see tax breaks for oil companies and hedge fund managers as essential to the American economy as they deny funds to rebuild infrastructure...and then complain that government can't fix potholes.
