Joseph P. Kennedy III wins decisively over Sean Bielat

NEWTON — Democrat Joseph P. Kennedy III won a decisive victory tonight over Republican Sean Bielat, in the race to fill the open Congressional seat left vacant by the retirement of US Representative Barney Frank.

With 42 percent of the vote counted, Kennedy, the 32-year-old son of former US Representative Joseph Kennedy II and grandson of US Senator Robert F. Kennedy, led with 64 percent of the vote in the redrawn 4th Congressional District, which extends from Newton to Fall River.

Well, that was easy! There's very few people your age that can quit their day job, hire political strategists who advise you where to live and carefully package you for an election, and raise millions of dollars in your first bid for office. Your well-qualified opponent, a homeowner and local businessman with a grass-roots operation, had no chance. And honestly, neither will any future opponent. One hopes you will treat the voters you are now representing with a bit more respect than Barney Frank. It will help your image when you return in a few years to reclaim the Kennedy seat that is so rightfully yours.
