Rats swarm Castle Island in South Boston
For centuries, Castle Island stood as a bulwark against foreign invaders. But these days, the popular South Boston park is battling domestic intruders: rats. The Castle Island Association, a non-profit historical preservation group, says a rodent infestation has prompted it to cancel its monthly meetings at the seaside park because of concerns about members’ safety and health. State Senator Jack Hart said he has received a number of calls from residents complaining that the rodents, especially in the early morning and at night.
