O’Malley lauds defeat of doctor-assisted suicide bill

Claims victory in fight to defeat Question 2 on Bay State ballot

Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Boston, said Monday that the results of the Nov. 6 election do not reflect increased support for abortion rights in the United States, even though some of the candidates most staunchly opposed to abortion lost.

O’Malley, who will take over as chairman of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Pro-Life Committee this week, said a few prominent abortion opponents may have caused a backlash in their own races by talking about the issue in a way that alienated voters, but the economy and immigration were the main issues driving the outcome.

This guy makes me wish I had donated to the Question 2 campaign, which I failed to do. Next time I will. Tell your parishioners what to do, but stay out of my life.

Maybe you should have given some of the money you spent on the campaign against Question 2 to victims, which you claim you don't have the money to pay.

I resent this undemocratic, misogynistic, medeval organization interfering in my life.  Furthermore, if they want to be a player on the political scene they should surrender their tax exempt status.

The Catholic Church is wonderful organization for Catholics. Many of us are not Catholic and have no desire to live by the policies and values of the church, where civil society is concerned. If the church wants to dictate for Catholics how they are allowed to die...fine. But please leave the rest of us alone.

The assault I was really concerned with was the incredibly painful assault of cancer on my father. I don't recall the cardinal sitting at his bedside.

Anyway, I believe the ballot measure will pass next time.

If not this time...next time.  The end-of-life measure will pass with a better organized and funded pro-choice argument.  Besides, Catholic influence and numbers continue to wane in Massachusetts.

Partly that's due to the news found everyday on the obituary pages.  Also, more and more young, informed people simply walk away from Catholicism due to the gay marriage, birth control and abortion stands peddled by a reactionary clergy.  Over the last 15 years or so, Catholic membership has declined from 54 percent of the Massachusetts population to under 40 percent.  Add to that all those aging priests...and closing parishes.

Want to keep spending your money this way, Cardinal O'Malley?  Be our guest.

You are kidding me ‘terrible assault on human life’, maybe this guy might do some house cleaning before he opens his dam mouth

Another example of someone imposing their religious beliefs on everyone else!  Ridiculous!!!

didn't hear anything in church about the late term abortion believing president and even the 3 times he voted against saving an aborted baby's life that was born alive and could have lived....too late Cardinal...you agreed with him....now you will have to pay for abortions.
