Free mortgage help for state’s homeowners

Free aid is being offered to Connecticut homeowners who need help with loan modifications, foreclosure prevention, and other issues with their lenders. The state Department of Banking, the governor's office, and the attorney general's office will hold their latest mortgage assistance event in Waterbury on Nov. 28, at the Conference Center at CoCo Key from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Representatives from mortgage lenders and loan servicing companies are scheduled to be on hand. The group includes Bank of America, CitiMortgage, Fannie Mae, GMAC Mortgage, and others. Housing counseling agencies, the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Judicial Branch mediation, and other state and nonprofit agencies also will attend. Information about participating banks and the documents homeowners must bring can be found at www.ct.gov/dob/homeowner.
