Stephan Ross (in striped uniform) and family members of late soldier Steve Sattler (seen in framed picture) met Sunday.
Ross was in the Dachau concentration camp some 67 years ago when Sattler, an American soldier, gave Ross food and a flag.
The meeting took place at the Veterans Day ceremony at the State House on Sunday.
Boston City Councillor Michael P. Ross held up a small American flag given to his father, Stephan Ross, by Sattler.
Students from the North Quincy High School ROTC program lined the grand staircase at the State House.
Governor Deval Patrick, Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren, and other political notables honored veterans and their families at the ceremony.
The United States Air Force Band of Liberty, based at Hanscom Air Force base, played during the ceremony.
