Demand for Thanksgiving turkeys in Boston up by 50 percent and Salvation Army says it needs help

The number of families in Boston asking for turkeys this Thanksgiving has increased by 50 percent, and the Salvation Army is now asking for donations from the public to help meet that need.

Nearly 1,800 Boston families have asked the Salvation Army for help putting Thanksgiving dinner on the table this year, a jump from 1,200 last season, the charity said.
