Rhode Islanders behind on their taxes have one day left to take advantage of a tax amnesty program. The state division of taxation said the amnesty has so far generated $9.4 million from 4,225 applications. The program ends at the end of the day Thursday, at midnight. Under the program, penalties are waived for those who submit past-due returns with their taxes owed. Interest on the owed amount is reduced by 25 percent. The state also agrees not to pursue civil or criminal actions. (AP)
